ChiliProject is not maintained anymore. Please be advised that there will be no more updates.

We do not recommend that you setup new ChiliProject instances and we urge all existing users to migrate their data to a maintained system, e.g. Redmine. We will provide a migration script later. In the meantime, you can use the instructions by Christian Daehn.

Making personal details only visible for members

Added by Markus Guske at 2012-03-20 11:52 pm

Hi,

would do you think about making all personal infos only visible for members of the site?

Even if a project is public, it might be nice to have the infos only visible for members of any project and not for grabber tools.
Or leave the decision up to the user what kind of personal information he wants to be published for anonymous visitors.

Anyway, I like it to have the possibility to get in direct contact with members, e.g. to avoid discussions in issues and clarify things offline.

Your user page is only visible to members of projects you are also a member of, which in the case of a public project means every other user of the ChiliProject instance, which also means that if that installation is open "the world" can see your user page. Regarding the email, there's a setting in your account settings to show or not show it, though IIRC this applies to everyone, members and non-members alike. I don't know if this answers your question?

Regarding the "clarify things offline" part: issues are a place of discussion, and at least in open source but probably also in most teams discussions should take place in "public" places where everyone can get informed and involved, I don't see the need to "offline" (and by that I suppose you mean via e-mail, which by my definition isn't offline…) discussions.

Hi,

thanks for clarifying.

  • email address
I need to think about it.
Yes it is a public project, but there are a lot of bad guys out there grabbing personal information for bad things.
I want to treat all registered members with respect and share this kind of information, but not really to the rest.

Feature Suggestion
With this email address we are able to communicate via email. What about the feature to have a "contact via email" and send through a special page.
Sometime it might be necessary to try to contact someone from very old post, e.g. if solution is still pending or you want to contact this person for other purposes?

  • offline discussions
O.K. didn't know, that you like discussion in issues. I like to have it in forums,
But of course it is important to have the result documented to see what was discussed and which decisions were made. Also the: nope not this way decisions.
Doing it directly in issues keeps effort low, this is right.

Feel free to open feature requests for either the contact form or the finer control of the mail address visibility :-)
