ChiliProject is not maintained anymore. Please be advised that there will be no more updates.

We do not recommend that you setup new ChiliProject instances and we urge all existing users to migrate their data to a maintained system, e.g. Redmine. We will provide a migration script later. In the meantime, you can use the instructions by Christian Daehn.

long time no release?!

Added by nick tan at 2012-10-06 02:37 am

hi, chiliproject team

i'm just new to chiliproject, initially, i was researching redmine but some links diected me to chiliproject.

as i can see, there is long time no release for almost 4 months, it is not a agile way as one of the reason to fork.
i also see lot of pull requests on github that not get merged yet, some of them are quite interesting.

By contrast, redmine release frequently these days (2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2)

so i'm wondering, what happen to chiliproject?

thanks:)

I have the same feeling. In addition to that, there are no important features planned to next releases from my perspective.
It seems there is no serious discussion about features, lot of things that has been working in Redmine still (or already) do not work in chili...

I had chosen Chili for our project management half a year ago with vision that it will be developed rapidly, but these days I'm thinking of switching to the Redmine (the change is rather simple, only few manual changes in database is needed, I tested it already).

Additionaly, Redmine works with jRuby which is (in our - almost fully Java environment) advantage for us, chili does not.

Hi,

As other users, I've some doubts about the future of Chiliproject. I've used Redmine several years before migrating to the promising Chiliproject.

Now, I start to have some regrets, or questions. I know that developers have a family life, a work, and can only spend time to make Chiliproject envolve in their free time. I trusted and followed some people like Eric Davis when they decided to fork and work differently on the project. I really thank all developpers who work on the project, but we need to be reassure in order to continue using Chiliproject.
In case Chiliproject will stop, will you help your users to move their projects back to Redmine ?

Thanks,
Fab

Same concerns, here, BUT although communication from the dev team seems very low at the moment,
the project does not seem dead yet :

and
http://www.chiliproject.org/boards/1/topics/1980
and

I hope to see a realignment (reset release schedule, timings, expectations towards community ) and a revamp soon

Guys
I've created scripts to convert chiliproject database to redmine.
Convert description is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SPypGY_cBjeXmpDXjFVkrla3a8CsWpps0qIgj-VYJds/edit

There is small java program for converting issue history (it is attached). How to run it:
java -jar ChiliToredmine.jar full_path_to_database.yml_file<code>

Thanks Radek. Care to share your source code ? It would be great if you could submit in on github etc.
I have no intentions to migrate from Chilli right now, but it may happen in future. So your tool may need some additional tweakings etc, so it would be great to have it's source code to fix it if needed.
Anyway thanks for your tool, this is reassuring for a lot of Chilli users I suppose - that they can switch to Redmine if Chilli project dies...

But I really hope that would not happen.

Hi,

Thank for sharing your code. There is no more difference between both projects ?
I'll try it soon, activity on Chiliproject seems stopped...

Fabien D.: Well there are couple differences... Personally we will stay with chilli as long as possible... Because at least for me Chilli is far more superior, more intuitive, the UI and user experience is much much better... No offense to Redmine developers, but I sometimes use Redmine as example for tutoring how NOT to do web interface when it comes to good user experience:)

RE: long time no release?! - Added by Fabien D. at 2012-11-07 11:02 am

@Harry X, I will also continue to use Chiliproject as it is possible. When I asked the question about the difference between the two projects, I thought about the difference between database schemas. I forgot to read the documentation on migrating to Chile Redmine, and thought we just had to execute Java script to convert the database...

I agree that the original redmine UI is far to perfect, but redmine has well designed element hierarchy, identifiers and CSS classes. So it is rather simple to change application look. I have prepared look similar to redmine, based on Highrise theme, but all controls (including contextual) are moved to left, titles to rught. So you do not need still move mouse from one side of screen to another.
I can share it after remove company extras (logo, titles ... etc) if someone wanted.

btw
some things in chili irritaded me too - for example leftside menu at issues: I need do 2 clicks to create new issue (open menu, click at link). Is that good design?

btw2
during theme creation I found some missing wrapping divs so it was difficult to position some elements. I wrote request to add them to redmine's issue tracker and during 2 days tehy were added. How long would I wait here?

@Radek:
I already managed to modify the Chili theme to match my own layout - with dynamically resizing to iPad + iPhone, too.

So maybe I can give you some tips. What did you want to change?

Attached you can find a screenshot of my (slightly) modified theme.

@Arius:
Hope your question was answered by Felix inside the other thread...

ciao,
Chris
